Accommodations

Accommodations are not a silver bullet but rather one tool that we use to enhance student learning.

If a student has a diagnosed learning difficulty that hinders his or her ability to access information or demonstrate knowledge in a manner appropriate to his or her ability level, then we strive to find the appropriate accommodations that provide space and opportunity for that student to learn and grow academically. It is important that students develop self–awareness and advocacy while improving school navigation and learning skills. Please allow plenty of time to complete the process, since it is not something that can be done last minute.

In order to be considered for accommodations at Valor, students and families must schedule and complete a full psychoeducational evaluation that includes the following:

  • Evaluation of cognitive skills
  • Academic Achievement Testing
  • Supplemental tests as needed
  • Results and subtest scores
  • A specific diagnosis and a DSM IV or DSM V code
  • Professional credentials of the evaluator; evaluation must be completed by a licensed provider
  • Description of specific recommendations for accommodations with rationale
  • Testing must be current (within the last three years)

Please note: Valor Christian’s policies and expectations are in alignment with ACT and College Board expectations to give students the best chance of receiving accommodations on standardized tests. Approval to receive accommodations at Valor does NOT guarantee students will receive accommodations on the ACT, SAT, PSAT, or AP exams.

Standardized Test Prep

At Valor, our commitment to prepare our students for university studies includes preparing them for standardized tests such as the ACT, SAT, and PSAT. When pursuing college scholarships or university acceptance, we understand how crucial a couple of points can be on these tests.

To this end, Valor offers a renowned ACT Test Prep course that provides the best strategies for taking the ACT as well as reinforcing the knowledge of content that is often covered on this test. We realize that our students are busy and involved in many extra-curricular activities; therefore, we conveniently offer our ACT Test Prep course during the school day as an elective. This package includes two fully-proctored practice tests that emulate the testing environment and experience. The course is only $215 as Valor desires to do its best to make test prep accessible to all families, while still offering a superior product.

The on-campus Tutoring Center also offers 1:1 ACT and SAT test prep tutoring at the cost of $80 per session for a more individualized approach.

Academic Management (AM)

The Academic Management (AM) course is intended to support students in developing their executive functioning skills by improving academic performance and study habits. AM faculty help students advocate for themselves with teachers and serve as a constant accountability checkpoint.

Weekly attention is given toward organization and grade checks as well as a plan for remediation if the student falls behind. This class functions as an elective in a student’s schedule, meeting three times per week, and is available for all students at the cost of $1,150 per semester.

If you would like more information, please contact the Academic Support Lead.
