No other high school in the country offers the level of in-depth, industry-relevant training in Songwriting, Studio Recording and Artist Development. Coupled with a joyful, Christ-centered culture, the Recording Arts program offers unparalleled opportunity to thrive as an artist. Our 2.1 million dollar recording arts complex reflects Valor's commitment to raising up artists to influence our culture for Christ.
Songwriting
Valor offers a robust curriculum that rivals most collegiate commercial music programs. Offering four levels of songwriting, students can excel from the basics of songwriting to producing work for the industry, released through the Loftside Collective. Our songwriting program is led by Marty Magehee, whose years with Christian band 4Him earned him 26 number-1 singles, 9 Dove Awards and a Grammy nomination.
Studio Recording
Geared towards anyone who is interested in learning production and audio engineering at any level, students are taught how to produce their own or other people's music utilizing software such as Logic and Protools. With access to our professional recording studio and state-of-the-art equipment such as our flagship SSL AWS 948 mixing console, opportunities rival advanced college programs.
Artist Development
Artist development is the process a musician goes through to develop the skills necessary to build a professional career in the music industry. Students focus on both performance and the business side of commercial music, typically performing publicly two to three times a year, while also working toward music releases through the Loftside Collective.
Loftside Collective
Songwriters and artists producing work at an industry quality level at Valor have a truly unique opportunity; join the Loftside Collective. In partnership with music marketing specialists Seaworthy Strategy, the Loftside Collective offers fee-added opportunities to professionally brand. release and propel their music, all while learning firsthand about the music industry.
Recording Arts Distinctives
Recording Suite
We are blessed to have national-level recording facilities available for student and professional use. Our control room features an SSL AWS 948 mixing console used by top recording artists, producers and engineers around the world. The full-sized tracking room handles large ensembles with ease, and is complemented by a Yamaha C6 and a piano iso, as well as a student-accessible Demo Suite for pre-production work. Our teaching space features a songwriting area that feels more like a Nashville coffee shop than a classroom - perfect for performance and critique. It's an environment that encourages creativity and growth.

Backed by a professional faculty and staff with a combined 60+ years of experience in songwriting and recording arts, Valor’s Recording Arts program allows students to have an industry-level experience that isn’t found in other high schools. At the same time, we are a team of skilled teachers who recognize that every student has different levels of experience, of hopes and of dreams for the future. Control Room
The heart of the Loftside Collective is the control room. For those who love gear, it's anchored by an SSL AWS 948 mixing console but also features Barefoot Sound MicroMain 27 speakers, and Dynaudio Acoustics BM15A's.
Demo Suite
Students utilize the Demo Suite to create high-level cuts of a song or to create a well-developed reference track for a future studio session.
Tracking Room
Designed to accommodate instrumental groups up to 30 in size, our tracking room allows us to meet a host of demands. The space features variable acoustics and exceptional sound modeling.
Studio Recording Lab
Our Mac lab allows for high-level instruction in Logic Pro and Protools. Each station comes equipped with a keyboard that allows our students to record MIDI.
Songwriters Cafe
A coffee shop-styled teaching area, the Songwriters Cafe features a mini stage and casual gathering area designed for critique in a cozy and creative environment.
Valor Center Main Stage
Students are afforded regular main-stage performance opportunities through the Artist Development track in Conservatory, Songwriter Showcases, and the Valor Music Awards, as well as our annual gala for the Recording Arts Program celebration.
Valor has allowed me to find my identity in music and learn a new way to embrace myself. My experience at Loftside has genuinely transformed my music for the better. I am so grateful for the fantastic teachers who have walked me through my journey and continue to love on us and help us grow - a big thank you to Valor and a big thank you to Loftside.
