Sport As Worship

Sport As Worship

We recognize that God is the author of all things, the source of true strength, and that our talents and abilities are blessings from Him. When we compete as a way to worship Him, sport becomes all the more compelling.

Sports are another opportunity to worship the Lord, Jesus Christ. Worship is the big “W” in our athletic experience, while all of the wins are the little “w”.

This counter-cultural approach to athletics is what makes Valor Athletics so special.
Sport As Worship is seeing transformation in our athletes and in our teams, a transformation guided by the Holy Spirit that draws every one of our athletes into a lifelong relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ. In addition to in-sport opportunities for faith integration guided by our coaches and chaplains, we offer a semester-long Bible elective in faith and sport integration for those who desire to grow in this area.

Macey Huard

Whether I’m on the court, or anywhere else, my main mission is to glorify God in everything I do and keep my focus on Him and who He calls me as His child. I also use the IMGC (invitation, meditation, gratitude, and celebration) method before every game. This helped me realize that sport really does have everything to do with my relationship with Jesus, as I do it as worship to Him who has given me every gift I have.

Kyle Green

Taking faith and sport integration was something so impactful to my faith as an athlete and really recognizing I am a child of God, not just an athlete. My identity is secure in Christ.

Raegan Beers

My whole life I have been doing everything from basketball to school for God. Instead of doing things for God, we must do them with Him. God desires to be in our lives with us through the good and bad. I strive to be with God each practice, each test, and every day. I am excited about where this view of God will take me. I can’t wait for others who discover this amazing truth through their time at Valor.

Keegan Waters

Although my identity was rooted firmly in Christ, I still allowed baseball to be an idol in my vision for my life. Understanding how to use my sport as one of MANY platforms of worship that the Lord uses in our lives, rather than the ONLY platform, has allowed me to realign Christ as the center of both my identity and vision.

Daily Practices

The Daily Practices of Invitation, Meditation, Gratitude and Celebration will prompt you to consider prayers, thoughts and actions with a heart that is tuned into Christ.

Our prayer is that these essential spiritual disciplines will be more than a to-do list, but an invitation to partner with the Creator of the Universe. As you journey through your life, we pray that these elements help continue to build an intentional relationship with Jesus.

INVITATION

We invite Jesus into our spaces, places, situations, and our innermost being.

James 4:8

MEDITATION

We meditate upon the Holy Word of God with our teams and savor the text to be nourished.

Psalm 1:2

GRATITUDE

We express thanksgiving to our Lord for our many great and wonderful gifts.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

CELEBRATION

We celebrate our victories and our defeats as they both lead to the worship of our Savior.
