Student Leadership

"But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great one’s exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,"

Matthew 20:25,26

Student Leadership at Valor provides students with meaningful opportunities for leadership, mentoring, discipleship and hands-on experience.

Valor’s vision is to 'prepare tomorrow’s leaders to transform the world for Christ.' We take leadership very seriously and believe in a leadership model based upon Christ as the perfect servant leader. Our intent is to develop leaders in all areas of the school and to encourage students to “lead from their position”, wherever that may be -- because leadership is not only position but influence.

Leadership Qualities

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience, bearing with one another, and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive. And above all these, put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:12-15

Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!

Psalm 31:24

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

1 Cor. 16:13

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Matthew 5:13-15

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 13:20

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

1 Corinthians 9:25

The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Matthew 23:11-12

Above all, love each other deeply, for love covers a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use each gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.

1 Peter 4:8-10

Program Structure

Valor’s structure of student government is predicated upon servant leadership and providing opportunities for students to engage in activities beyond just planning for student events.

Our student government consists of an elected student body president and several appointed vice-presidents who serve as representatives in a variety of areas within the school: Admissions, College Counseling, Arts+Media, Athletics, Spiritual Life, Kingdom Diversity and more. Appointment to leadership positions is based on teacher feedback, community engagement, application strength, and interviews with current office holders. The leadership team meets regularly throughout the year.

Student Leadership Involvement

Students are responsible for many of activities throughout the school year. They are challenged to collaborate and bring fresh ideas to annual traditions in many spheres of the school. Here is an example of their involvement:
