Student Tech Setup - Google Chrome

Welcome to the Valor Student Portal. Here you will find special announcements, links, forms and other resources to help you stay up-to-date with your Valor community.

This page will walk you through getting a new chrome profile set up, as well as logging in to your Valor EID for the first time.  This process will work even if you have chrome already set up with a personal gmail account.

If you have not downloaded chrome already, please do so hereIf you receive an error message at any point during this process and aren’t sure what to do, visit the bottom of this page for answers to common problems.

Chrome Profile Setup

1. Open Chrome. In the upper right-hand corner, click the grey person icon.

2. After you press the grey person icon, click the dropdown button that says “Add.

3. Give your profile a name such as “Valor” and select a color. Then click Done.

 

4. Once you have created the profile, click “Already a Chrome user? Sign in

5. You will now be presented with a login page.  Every student is issued an @GoValor.com email that corresponds to their name.  Which going forward will be referred to as a Valor EID.

The format will be LegalFirstName.LastName@GoValor.com
(For example: If you have a legal first name of Katherine, and a last name of Smith, but you go by Kate; your email address will be Katherine.Smith@GoValor.com.)

Your nickname will still appear on emails you send, and you can receive emails at Kate.Smith@GoValor.com, however you will need to log in with your legal first name.

Enter that Email Address into the field and click the blue next button.

 

6. You will now be redirected to a Valor login page.

Enter that same username in to the username field

For the password, we have set up a temporary password for you based off of your student ID number

The temporary password is StudentYYYYS####! where YYYY is the year before the S, and the #### are the last four (4) numbers of your student ID, followed by an exclamation point(!). The student ID number is available on your printed schedule

For example: if your student ID number is 2021S0002, then your temporary password would be Student2021S0002!

Enter that password and click Sign In.

7. The page will refresh and you will now be given prompt to reset your password to something unique to you.
For that unique password, there are a few criteria that must be followed:

  • The password must be a minimum of 12 characters long
  • The password must contain 3 of the following 4:
    • Upper-case character
    • Lower-case character
    • Number
    • Special (!@#$, etc)
  • The password cannot contain any part of your name

In the username field, enter your Valor EID username. In the old password field, enter the temporary student password you entered in the previous page. Confirm new password fields; enter the new password that you would like to have.

7. (Continued) Click submit.  Your password will have been changed and you will now be signed in to chrome.

8. On the following page after updating your password, you will be re-directed to “Verify it’s you” page. Click continue.

9. You will be prompted with a terms of service message from Google on your first sign in, click accept.

10. A window will drop down from the top of chrome after clicking this.  Click Link Data.

11. Another window will pop up asking if you want to turn on sync.  Click Yes, I’m In.  This will make it so any bookmarks you create in this chrome profile will sync to your device as well as any one you sign in to on campus.  This will also allow the default bookmarks from the school appear.

12. That’s it!  You’ll now see a google’s search bar in the middle as well as options for gmail and other resources in the top right.  Additionally, you will now see a “Valor Christian High School” folder appear in your bookmarks bar.  Inside of this folder we have provided you some helpful links to common resources.

Your chrome has now been set up.  If all looks good, you can now proceed back to the main tech setup for more information and steps.

Common Problems

Here are some of the common error messages you may receive during this process, as well as their solutions. If these resolutions don’t work, feel free to reach out to us at helpdesk@valorchristian.com between 8A-5P on weekdays and we will help you out.

This can appear during the first time sign in.  A couple of things to check:

  • Make sure you are using your legal first name
  • If you have a hyphenated last name, such as Smith-Parker; you’ll need to enter that as SmithParker
  • Double check the case sensitivity on the password.  If your student ID number is 2021S0002, then you temp password would be Student2001S002!
