Biblical Leadership Students Become Mini Scholars

One expectation of all sophomore students at Valor is to complete an in-depth study of a chosen passage of scripture. The project requires students to engage deeply with the biblical text, studying things such as authorship, context, the overarching theological message, and personal application. Students are encouraged to access study tools such as commentaries, Bible Dictionaries, lexicons, and word studies. For many students, this project has become the launching point for a deeper understanding of scripture and their own journey of in-depth biblical study. Our Biblical Leadership students are required to take the project to a new level. Once they completed the study this semester, they presented their passage to an audience that not only included peers, but also parents and staff, demonstrating their learning. The Bible Project is also the cornerstone for later activities, including the preaching club.

Galapagos Island Discovery Experience

The Ecuador and Galapagos Discovery trip this past summer is an excellent example of how Discovery experiences extend our students' learning into the real world. When talking about Ecology in Biology class, students learn how ecologists study ecosystems and the challenges they face in preserving our natural world. Are certain species endangered? Do they need particular conservation action? How are we impacting them? However, none of these questions can be answered until we know the types and population levels of species that exist there. This is a challenging but essential job that our students were able to participate in!
