Valor Speech and Debate Team Places at State

Valor's Speech and Debate team took 10 students to the CHSAA 4A State Tournament and achieved wonderful success. The team's hard work leading up to State paid off! Out of more than 40 schools and 500 competitors, Valor took 5th place in the Debate Sweepstakes and 10th place overall.

This wouldn't have been possible without the individual work and success of our students! Their accomplishments included:

  • In the United States Extemporaneous Speaking, Junior Martin Kovachev took 9th place.

  • In Public Forum Debate, out of 44 teams Seniors Emelie Rosenberg and Kate Niebergall progressed to Octofinals.

    • Seniors Carter Himango and Henry Mohler progressed to the quarterfinal\

    • Seniors Micah Gautier and Cadin Dineen progressed to the semifinals and earned Third Place.

Coach Zak Flowers had kind words to say about his students, "Our students have worked hard to become excellent communicators throughout the entire season and they now get to revel in their success as we prepare to head to our National Qualifying tournament in two weeks." Coaches Katrina Johnson and Zak Flowers expressed their pride in them for their dedication and their tremendous performance under pressure.

Students in AP Calculus played cops and speeders last week in class. Students had the opportunity to use real radar guns and math to try and see if they could catch their classmates speeding along Fairview.
