Valor's TSA Team goes to National Conference!

Congratulations to Valor's TSA Team!

In June, Valor made its first entry at the Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference and placed in the top 10 in the nation!

Seniors Liana Hase-Penn (center) and Peyton Brown (right), along with TSA advisor and Math instructor Mrs. Colleen Shallenberger, attended the conference in Dallas. Liana and Peyton spent weeks preparing to compete in four events: Forensic Science, Fashion Design and Technology, Dragster Design, and Technology Problem Solving.

In the Fashion Design event, Peyton and Liana improved upon their medal-winning entry from the Colorado State Conference with new embellishments. Competing against over 40 teams, Valor earned a place in the semifinals, and the pair finished as top 10 finalists! In Dragster Design (a very competitive national event) Peyton and Liana posted a very respectable time and finished in the top 40. Congratulations Liana and Peyton!

TSA is open to all Valor students. Watch for announcements about meetings this fall and join us for some fun events, and meet TSA students from all over the state!

Essentially, “If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, you don't understand it well enough yourself.” ― Albert Einstein.

Calculus Speed Trap

If you travel 40 miles per 60 minutes, what’s your average speed per hour, or what’s your average rate of change (the change in distance over the change in time)? Are they different? Students in AP Calculus played cops and speeders last week in class. Students had the opportunity to use real radar guns and math to try and see if they could catch their classmates speeding along Fairview.

We want to regularly include comments from graduates to help give a sense of how the Humanities program prepared them for the next phase of their lives. For our first alumni check-in, we asked Ben Leikam to reflect on how his time in the Humanities program prepared him for college. Here are his thoughts...
